Chevy Chase Fire Department Open House

said on October 11th, 2012 filed under: Chevy Chase

Saturday, October 13 is open house at Chevy Chase Fire Department, Station 7 from 10am – 3pm.

The theme this year focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and urges residents to develop and practice an escape plan and “Have Two Ways Out!”  Hey, this strikes close to home for me.  My husband got caught in an office building fire this summer, and was rescued by a cherry picker from the 2nd story window of his building.  Had he not smashed the window (not an easy feat), who knows what would have happened.  Two Ways Out is really good advice.  Take two minutes to figure out an escape plan for your family, wherever the location – at home, on vacation, at the office, or at school.  It can save a life.

October is Fire Prevention Month and fire stations around Montgomery County will be hosting many educational, family-oriented activities and Open Houses throughout the month. All Open House events are free and will feature many activities including tours of the station, fire safety activities, educational information/handouts, demonstrations of emergency equipment and much more.

I used to take my kids to this event when they were little.  They LOVED it.

East Bethesda MD 20814 Homes for Sale 10/5/12

said on October 5th, 2012 filed under: Bethesda

Update for 10/5/2012. One new listing.  No price drops.  No contracts.  There are, however, a lot of bulldozers and big trucks in the neighborhood… I’ve seen at least 3 houses come down over the past 2 weeks, which means replacement houses are on the way.

All the homes in this article are currently for sale within East Bethesda. The top of the list features the newest listings, while the bottom showcases those that have been on the market for quite some time. I’ll be updating this post every Friday, so be sure to check back to see what’s new, what’s gone, & what might be coming (and check out the date up top… if it’s not current, neither is this information!). I’ve lived in East Bethesda for over 17 years. I’ve sold real estate in East Bethesda for over 12 years. It’s a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance of two metro stops AND downtown Bethesda. While all of this information is available to you on the various search engines (and please keep in mind that these are not all of my own listings), I’ve taken the time to inject my opinion on the condition, pricing, and likelihood of each property selling… or not. I hope you’ll give me a call if you have any questions. I have loved living here over the years, and I want to share it with other enthusiastic people!

4422 Chestnut Street, $609,000
Oh, this is a teeny, tiny one.  2 bedrooms, 2 full baths.  Paneled basement. Somewhat updated kitchen. Garage out back. Covered entryway.  I’ll just say it… I think the price is too high.  But we have so little in the way of inventory these days (particularly listings under $1 million) that my socks just might get knocked off.  Slightly larger house on similar lot sold less than a year ago for $500K. Things have improved, but not that much. Days on Market: 1

Such a pretty house This has been an East Bethesda favorite of mine since it went up in 2005. The gardens are gorgeous, and it’s perched up on a hill overlooking the neighborhood. Some unique interior features set it apart from your average new construction, including a gas range that costs more than most used cars. 4BR/4FB and a 4-car garage! The 4th bedroom is on the main floor and doubles as an office. Days on Market: 29

The Evers & Co. August 2012 Real Estate Report

said on September 17th, 2012 filed under: State of the Market

National CathedralThe market in the close-in Metro market stayed strong through out the summer, with August home sales up 6.4% and days on the market down 20%, compared to the same time last year. While August sales contracts rose to their highest levels in three years, they were still down 57% from the peak of the housing market in 2005, which underlines the current market’s very low inventory of listings. This tremendous shortage of inventory pushes prices upward and creates an increasingly competitive market with many instances of multiple bids, especially for the properties between $300,000 and $900,000 that show well and are correctly priced.

Buyers are entering the market in ever-increasing numbers, spurred on by record low mortgage interest rates. Since most home purchases are made with at least 80% of borrowed funds, the cost of money greatly impacts the total cost of the purchase. These trends of low inventory, increasing buyer demand, rising prices and low interest rates are likely to continue through the fall season.

* Statistics are taken from the Metropolitan Regional Information System for three areas: Washington, D.C.; Montgomery County, Maryland; and Fairfax County, Arlington and Alexandria in Virginia.
