rose bushUpdate for 5/18/2012… Lots of houses selling this last week! 0 new listings, 5 under contract, and no price drops.

All the homes in this article are currently for sale within East Bethesda. The top of the list features the newest listings, while the bottom showcases those that have been on the market for quite some time. I’ll be updating this post every Friday, so be sure to check back to see what’s new, what’s gone, & what might be coming (and check out the date up top… if it’s not current, neither is this information!). I’ve lived in East Bethesda for over 17 years. I’ve sold real estate in East Bethesda for over 12 years. It’s a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance of two metro stops AND downtown Bethesda. While all of this information is available to you on the various search engines, I’ve taken the time to inject my opinion on the condition, pricing, and likelihood of each property selling… or not. I hope you’ll give me a call if you have any questions. I have loved living here over the years, and I want to share it with other enthusiastic people!

4613 W. Virginia4613 West Virginia Avenue, $1,195,000
Not sure why this one is back on the market.  It just sold in December ‘11.  That said, it’s a lovely house with 5BR/3.5BA.  Vaulted ceiling in the family room, wooden floors, open kitchen.  2 fireplaces. Detached garage.  Pretty front porch. 1.5 blocks to Wisconsin.  Luscious landscaping.  Days on Market: 0

Sadly, dog does not convey. Short walk to Lynbrook Park. Days on Market: 2

Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet

said on April 22nd, 2012 filed under: Bethesda, Chevy Chase, District of Columbia, Just For Fun

DEA Take Back Drug DayA few years back, when my grandmother died, we had to clean out her house.  She wasn’t much of a pack rat, so it was surprising to discover an old box of prescriptions dating back to the 1960’s.  Perhaps she had some crafty pharmaceutical plans for her stash of old medicine? Doesn’t exactly fit her profile. I’m guessing she just didn’t know what to do with them.  After all, you can’t (or shouldn’t) flush them down the toilet. And putting them in the trash (I’m told) is a no no.

Fast forward to 2012, and I’m guilty of the same.  I still have old bottles of this and that sitting unused and forlorn in my over crowded linen closet. But I’ve got good news, folks.  Salvation is right around the corner.

Saturday, April 28 is the DEA- Take Back Drug Day.  From 10-2 you can drop off your unused, unwanted, unfinished, & expired medications at the following locations:

4608 W. Virginia Ave. 4608 West Virginia Avenue, $949,000
Handsome bungalow with a lovely front porch, inviting living room with a fireplace, good looking hardwood floors and a glorious garden. Sits on a double lot, not that this does anyone much good, minus the builders. Large, almost separate 2-level addition in the back of the house – connected at the kitchen. Adds value to the property, but isn’t easily incorporated into the rest of the house. Buyer specific. Days on Market: 8

8511 Halston8511 Halston Way, $965,000
Nope, this you’re not seeing double. Two townhomes are available and they are next door to each other. The only difference is a mere 3 feet and an extra full bath (this unit is “larger” and more bathy). 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 2 half baths, and 4 levels. 1-car garage. Refinished floors and a hot tub. Days on Market: 8

East Bethesda Lynbrook Park Middle School Shake Up

said on April 10th, 2012 filed under: Bethesda, Chevy Chase

Middle School site selectionWow, just when you think you know everything, the Planning Board comes along and screws around with your predictions!  In my last several blogs discussing the ongoing middle school site selection, I hastily suggested that the Rock Creek Hills site was almost a done deal. This came on the heels of a strong recommendation from the Site Selection Advisory Committees and the Superintendent. How wrong I appear to have been:

Last night the Montgomery County Planning Board met for a mandatory review of the Superintendent’s recommendation to build the new middle school on the Rock Creek Hills site.

They voted 4 to 1, that while recognizing the right of reclaim on the Rock Creek Hills Park, that rather MCPS reconsider Lynbrook Park as the site for the new B-CC Middle School.

The Planning Board said this would provide a Read the rest of this entry »

New Home for Bethesda Central Farm Market

said on April 4th, 2012 filed under: Bethesda, Just For Fun

Tom-a-to, Tom-ah-toApril 1 marked the grand re-opening of the Bethesda Central Farm Market at a new location… Bethesda Elementary School. This poor little market has had several moves in the last several years, so it’s important to keep it on the radar screen.  Formerly located on Elm Street (between Wisconsin and Woodmont Avenues), the market has to move because of upcoming development on Lots 31 and 31A in downtown Bethesda, scheduled to begin April 10. Parking is the culprit.

The market is open on Sundays from 9-12:30.  There are a variety of vendors offering fresh produce, flowers, seafood, meat, cheese, poultry, baked goods and prepared/specialty foods.   While it isn’t exactly in a bustling, downtown setting, it does offer parking, and easy access to Bethesda Library!

Support your local farm markets!
