East Bethesda MD 20814 Homes for Sale 3/30/12

Update for 3/30/2012… No new listings, 1 under contract, and 2 price drops.
All the homes in this article are currently for sale within East Bethesda. The top of the list features the newest listings, while the bottom showcases those that have been on the market for quite some time. I’ll be updating this post every Friday, so be sure to check back to see what’s new, what’s gone, & what might be coming (and check out the date up top… if it’s not current, neither is this information!). I’ve lived in East Bethesda for over 17 years. I’ve sold real estate in East Bethesda for over 12 years. It’s a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance of two metro stops AND downtown Bethesda. While all of this information is available to you on the various search engines, I’ve taken the time to inject my opinion on the condition, pricing, and likelihood of each property selling… or not. I hope you’ll give me a call if you have any questions. I have loved living here over the years, and I want to share it with other enthusiastic people!

Bethesda Parking Update- Lots 31 & 31A
Back in December I warned of a parking upset due to hit downtown Bethesda in mid-January. Since then I’ve been waiting for the bulldozers to show up… to no avail.
At long last, after much delay, the two surface lots close to Barnes & Noble are set to begin construction April 3, 2012. As reported previously, parking spots will be at a premium, so plan well. No longer can serendipity send you off to Bethesda Bagels at 4 in the afternoon for a lox run. Well it might, but it may take you a while.
The Bethesda Circulator will bring some relief. It runs pretty often and can bring you in from some of the more remote lots being offered up as alternatives.
It’s going to last for over 2 years, folks. Ugh.

New Middle School Recommended
The BCC Middle School Site Selection Committee has officially recommended Rock Creek Hills Park in Kensington, MD as the site of the future middle school within the BCC cluster. It’s not a done deal, but it’s likely to be the final resting place for the school. The next steps in the site selection process are:
- March 15th 9:00 am – Briefing by MCPS staff to Montgomery County Planning Board on SSAC report and recommendations
- March 30th Superintendent recommendation released
- April 9th 5:00 pm – Mandatory Referral at Planning Board on report recommendations
- April 12th 4:00 pm – Board of Education action on a site
An extensive report is available for viewing for those wanting to dig deep into the selection process.
I’m highlighting some of the more pertinent details from the report: Read the rest of this entry »
The Evers & Co. February 2012 Real Estate Report
February showed a marked improvement in the close-in Metro area, compared to January, when the numbers were almost the same as the previous year. The dollar volume of sales was up 9% from last February, average price was up 4.3% and days-on-the- market (DOM) was down 3.3%. Once again, the big leader in our area was the District, with a huge 21% increase in dollar volume of sales, an 8% increase in average price and a noticeable 20 day decrease in DOM.
The attraction for first-time homebuyers and empty-nesters of living in “walkable” neighborhoods contributes to the success of the District. Added to that is the fact that much of Washington has many neighborhoods of comfortable homes and condominiums on attractive tree-lined streets, near Metro stops and just minutes from the heart of downtown, which is unusual for most big cities in the US.
*Statistics are taken from the Metropolitan Regional Information System for three areas: Washington, DC; Montgomery County, Maryland; and Fairfax County, Arlington and Alexandria in Virginia.
Don’t Forget- Spring Forward!
My husband is grumbling about losing an hour this weekend. I’m jumping up and down because we get some more light at the end of the day.
It happens twice a year… this shifting of the clock. In the spring we lose an hour… in the winter we gain an hour. It all takes place at 2 a.m. Sunday.
Some people have a really hard time adjusting to the change, and they say that young kids are most affected. Though it’s a little late to be giving out advice, experts (and I’d like to know… who are these clock changing experts?) suggest a gradual adjustment in bed times 3-4 days before the change takes place, in 10-20 minute increments. That gives the body some time to adjust.
If you choose to go cold turkey, things should even out in 2-3 days.
Happy Spring!

Update for 3/9/2012… Throw in a few days in the low 70′s and all sorts of flowers start to bloom. East Bethesda is looking rather festive. And the spring market is in full force. I’ve been crazed with activity and rather remiss in my updates. Things could be worse. OK- here’s the scoop on East Bethesda: 1 new listing. 1 under contract. No price drops.
