East Bethesda MD 20814 Homes for Sale 12/30/11

Update for 12/30/2011… Sorry. No new listings, No price drops, & Nothing under contract. Real Estate really slows down around the holidays. Enjoy.
All the homes in this article are currently for sale within East Bethesda. The top of the list features the newest listings, while the bottom showcases those that have been on the market for quite some time. I’ll be updating this post every Friday, so be sure to check back to see what’s new, what’s gone, & what might be coming (and check out the date up top… if it’s not current, neither is this information!). I’ve lived in East Bethesda for over 16 years. I’ve sold real estate in East Bethesda for over 12 years. It’s a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance of two metro stops AND downtown Bethesda. While all of this information is available to you on the various search engines, I’ve taken the time to inject my opinion on the condition, pricing, and likelihood of each property selling… or not. I hope you’ll give me a call if you have any questions. I have loved living here over the years, and I want to share it with other enthusiastic people!

4710 Jones Bridge Rd., $575,000
This one is a puzzle. Expanded brick cape on a very busy corner (Jones Bridge and Wisconsin Avenue just across from NIH and the BRAC expansion). Back when it was a rental it used to sport a “Fortunes Told” sign, much to the chagrin of the neighbors. The MLS listing has it with 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath, though there are plenty of additional rooms and plumbing… makes me wonder if some of the work wasn’t officially permitted? The walls have been painted but the floors are a mess. Needs a lot of work for the price. Days on Market: 17 Read the rest of this entry »

Evers & Co. November 2011 Real Estate Report
November was the second month in a row where the average price in the close-in Metro area market was down slightly, after 16 consecutive months of the price being up over the same month of the previous year. So, while our numbers are significantly better than the rest of the country and we can chart the bottom of our local housing recession as having occurred late 2008 and early 2009, we are still moving uphill slowly.
What does this mean for buyers and sellers?
Buyers can see that we are well past the bottom of the market, and interest rates continue to be at record lows, so now would be the best time to buy before prices go up. While buyers may need a 20% down payment for the conventional market, FHA loans can still be had up Read the rest of this entry »
Shop Local Bethesda
It doesn’t hurt to remind people to shop at their favorite small shops during this holiday season. If we don’t, these unique shops may cease to exist. I, for one, don’t want to live in a world where the big box stores get to dictate my shopping choices. Small shops are worth the extra expense. They promote local artists and crafts people. Keep it local!
Here are a few of my favorites:

Nantucket in the Fall
I confess- all the holiday hoopla has me at a rare loss for words. I’m working on my end of the year stats, but you don’t get to see that until the end of the year. The December market is kind of slow and not much new is popping on the market. It should pick up in January.
In the meantime, I’ll entertain you with some vacation photography. A good friend grew up on Nantucket, and invited our book club to enjoy ourselves in September. We really lucked out with the weather.

Bethesda Parking 2012 and Beyond…
Bethesda parking, already a challenge, is about to get a lot more difficult…
Right after the new year, around January 15, Lots 31 and 31A (a.k.a. the parking lots across from Barnes & Noble) will be closed fur 30 months during construction. This will result in the loss of 270 surface parking spaces. The county plans to build a large underground public parking garage on this space (around 940 spaces), and up top will be 88 luxury condominiums (The Darcy) and 162 apartments (The Flats).
Parking, as you can imagine, will be difficult. To ease the pain the county plans on shifting some long term parking out of the neighboring public garages and adding 103 short-term spots and 9 ADA spots. Long terms spaces will be available at the public lot on the corner of Read the rest of this entry »
To List, or Not to List
Every year around Thanksgiving the same old question comes up. Should I list my house now, or wait until after the holidays? And, if your house is already on the market, you might be wondering if it makes sense to temporarily withdraw it and try again in the more robust spring market? The holiday housing market is always a puzzle.
I did a little sleuthing and discovered some interesting information. I cast a fairly wide net for my research (specifically, I looked at zips 20814, 20815, 20816, 20817, 20818, 20895, 20910, 20901, 20015, 20016 and 20008, or Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Somerset, Kensington, close-in Silver Spring, Chevy Chase DC, AU Park, and Cleveland Park). As it turns out, the week before Thanksgiving and all the way through the end of November, prime holiday and travel time, a healthy Read the rest of this entry »
