Update for 9/30/2011… 2 new listings, 3 under contract, and 2 price reductions.

All the homes in this article are currently for sale within East Bethesda. The top of the list features the newest listings, while the bottom showcases those that have been on the market for quite some time. I’ll be updating this post every Friday, so be sure to check back to see what’s new, what’s gone, & what might be coming (and check out the date up top… if it’s not current, neither is this information!). I’ve lived in East Bethesda for over 16 years. I’ve sold real estate in East Bethesda for over 12 years. It’s a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance of two metro stops AND downtown Bethesda. While all of this information is available to you on the various search engines, I’ve taken the time to inject my opinion on the condition, pricing, and likelihood of each property selling… or not. I hope you’ll give me a call if you have any questions. I have loved living here over the years, and I want to share it with other enthusiastic people!

Bethesda Patch & Free Trees

said on September 29th, 2011 filed under: Just For Fun

tree ringsBethesdaPatch is a nice little on-line newspaper that brings me up to speed on local happenings.  It’s not unique to Bethesda.  The “Patch” is all over the United States.  My sister writes articles for the one in San Anselmo, CA.

You can read the police blotter, learn about fairs, super local deals, farmers markets, or layoffs at Lockheed. Today it inspired me to write about a tree give-away program sponsored by Pepco and the Arbor Day Foundation.

So, if you are a Pepco customer, you can sign up for two free trees.  The hope is that the new trees will provide ample shade, allowing you to lower your cooling costs during the summer.  They have an interactive map that allows you to select the trees that will allow you to “maximize your home’s energy savings potential”.  The website will also allow you to estimate your savings by planting a tree.  Pretty cool.

The deadline is November 12, 2011.  They will be giving away 1,000 trees on a first-come, first-served basis.  Hurry!

Montgomery County Grape Stomp

said on September 27th, 2011 filed under: Information for Buyers

grape vineA lot of people fantasize about stomping a grape or two.  Not me, but some people.  If you’re part of that club, and a trip to Italy, or even Napa Valley isn’t in the immediate future, you might want to head to the Sugarloaf Mountain Winery over the next two weekends to catch the 2011 5th annual Grape Stomp.

You can participate in a friendly little wine stomping and win prizes if you produce the most amount of juice. You can also take a wine tour. There will be live music and food will be available for purchase.

Advance purchase tickets are $15.  At the door they will cost you $20.

Bring your chairs and blankets.

Noon – 5pm on October 1/2 and again on October 8/9.  Enjoy!

4544 S. Chelsea Lane4544 S. Chelsea Lane, $839,000
This was on the market last Fall at a much higher price ($939K). When a house is overpriced, one tends to focus on all of the negative aspects of a house, and there are a few to be found here. At this price, it’s a bargain. There are 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. Some of the bedrooms are small, and the ratio of bedrooms to baths on the upper two levels is unfortunate. That said, the house appears to be in tip-top condition, offers up an abundance of nicely finished space, and the location can’t be beat. I’m guessing that it’ll go quickly this time around.

The Evers & Co Real Estate Report- August 2011

bigstock_Us_Capitol_3367626The Evers & Co. Real Estate Report for August 2011

It’s no surprise that the average price in the close-in Metro market was up for the 16th consecutive month. In this steadily improving marketplace, the dollar volume of sales was also up for the second month in a row. And, in a market that is low on supply and high on demand, well-located properties that are priced correctly and show well often have multiple bidders.

Fortunately, loans up to $417,000 are running in the 4 % range, which makes purchases for first time buyers Read the rest of this entry »
