East Bethesda MD 20814 Homes for Sale 4/29/11

Update for 4/29/2011: 1 new listing, 2 under contract and 1 smallish price reduction…all during the last week!
All the homes in this article are currently for sale within East Bethesda. The top of the list features the newest listings, while the bottom showcases those that have been on the market for quite some time. I’ll be updating this post every Friday, so be sure to check back to see what’s new, what’s gone, & what might be coming (and check out the date up top… if it’s not current, neither is this information!). I’ve lived in East Bethesda for over 15 years. I’ve sold real estate in East Bethesda for over 11 years. It’s a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance of two metro stops AND downtown Bethesda. While all of this information is available to you on the various search engines, I’ve taken the time to inject my opinion on the condition, pricing, and likelihood of each property selling… or not. I hope you’ll give me a call if you have any questions. I have loved living here over the years, and I want to share it with other enthusiastic people!

Chevy Chase MD 20815 Market Analysis/1Q 2011

Chevy Chase Elementary School
Back in 2010 I got into the habit of posting real estate market analysis on a monthly basis by zip code… but, guess what? It wasn’t necessarily indicative of the market we were experiencing at the time. One large house could really skew the numbers (and often did), as could a flurry of snow flakes. So, I decided to take it back a notch and post these findings on a quarterly basis. I think you’ll find that it represents area market trends more accurately.
So, what can we glean from these numbers? For starters, there were a heck of a lot more Read the rest of this entry »

Fresh Produce Delivered to Your DC Doorstep
The theme of the week seems to be food. My last post was about lobster. I’ve now moved on to veggies.
A few months ago I signed up for a service that delivers organic fruits and vegetables to my house every other week. I’ve been meaning to take a picture of the bounty, but twice now it has found the fridge before I remember to grab the camera. So, behold my borrowed photo of delicious lettuce.
Washington’s Green Grocer started back in 1994 when owners Zeke and Lisa became distressed over the quality of the produce at their local shopping market. Naturally, they started their own Read the rest of this entry »
Bethesda Lobster
Got Lobster?
The guys from Maine do. Every Friday in Bethesda. And every Saturday in Kensington (they also do Baltimore, but that’s a bit of a haul).
For 27 years now the Salt River Lobster company has been providing fresh lobster from Maine. No middle man. They also offer shrimp, fresh fish, various other shellfish, and some smoked seafood.
I’ve been buying lobsters from them since back in the day when they had their truck on the NIH campus. In fact, the business got started because the lobster guy had a friend at NIH who suggested that he sell ‘em at the (former) farmers market. Now they can be found at the Bethesda Community Market (pictured on the banner of this website- thank you Joseph Craig English), on the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Greentree Road. They set up shop on Fridays from 9am-6pm.
You can order ahead to guarantee that you get what you want! This is a good idea if you’ve got a big order, or if you absolutely MUST HAVE a 2lb. lobster.

Pay For Bethesda Parking with Your Cell Phone
Cell phones can now be used to pay for parking at 5,250 County parking meters in Bethesda. By summer, the program will be expanded to include meters in Silver Spring, Wheaton, Montgomery Hills and North Bethesda – for a total of 11,000 parking meters.
To use pay-by-cell, first-time users can register for the program by calling 301-830-7074 or going online anytime to www.mc.goparknow.com (I just signed up- it’s really easy). Parkers set up an account and indicate which credit card will be used for the parking charges. The step-by-step instructions, printed on each meter, direct parkers to:
• Use a cell phone to call 301-830-7074.
• Or, send a text message to 32075.
• Follow the phone/text prompts to enter the meter location number (located on the meter decal).
• Select the amount of time desired for parking.

4308 Sleaford Road BETHESDA MD 20814
UNDER CONTRACT AS OF 4/19/2011
Offered at $739,000
The first time I met with the sellers of 4308 Sleaford Road to discuss the sale of their home, it was about 95° outside and it felt like a swamp. My eyebrow went up a notch as they invited me out to the covered patio to sit down and discuss business. Turns out I had nothing to fear. With the fan turning slowly overhead, it was absolutely lovely and surprisingly comfortable, regardless of the temperature. The setting is idyllic. Surrounded by several stone retaining walls, the garden is a work of art (and so clearly beyond my personal capabilities), which is why it’s such a pleasure to observe. And the fishpond (once featured in a Lilypons catalog) is to die for. Can you tell that I like the place?
The sellers (who have lived in the house for over 35 years) have done an amazing job of renovating the interior and preparing it for market. The floors have been sanded, stained and refinished, and the Read the rest of this entry »
Evers & Company March 2011 Real Estate Report
The March 2011 Evers & Co Real Estate Report
Last year, March sales were roaring because of the First Time Homebuyer’s Tax Credit, so it isn’t surprising that the dollar volume of sales this March actually declined 3% from last year at this time. Properties stayed on the market 31% longer than last year at this time, again because last spring’s market was fueled by the tax credit.
Those of us involved in the real estate market anticipated that this March would show a great improvement over February, and indeed it did, with a 53% increase in dollar volume of sales. While April 2011 should be even better than this past month, it will be hard to meet the landslide of sales we saw last April with buyers rushing to purchase before the April 30th tax credit deadline. The good news is that the average price of property, which is the last thing to improve in a market recovery, has gone up 11 out the past 12 months, with a whopping 10% increase this month over March 2010.
