Montgomery County Dog Park Permits
Montgomery County recently introduced a fee to use the local dog parks. Beginning August 1, 2010 each dog will need a permit and collar tag to access the parks. The fee is $40 per year and $5 for each additional dog. Non-residents will pay $48/$6. Permit applications are available online. Within Montgomery County there are 5 dog parks. Dog parks are a wonderful thing. I wish there were one a little closer to my home in Bethesda. Even so, hopping in the car to run your dog around is like, hmmmm… driving your kid to skating lessons?! (note big light bulb turning on in my head). Maybe I should go more often. Seems like every time I let Mr. Handsome off the leash, he finds a cat or squirrel to chase, and off I go. Containment could be my friend. He’s not so good on fetching the ball either. Chasing it, yes.
Aside from my local park, a favorite walking spot is a short trail in Rock Creek Park, just off Jones Mill Road. You’ll find a lot of dogs there. And the occasional squirrel.
Happy Trails!
