I’m not a lawyer…

said on May 27th, 2010 filed under: Information for Buyers, Information for Sellers

supreme courtSome of my buyers and sellers have asked if they should show their paperwork to a lawyer before submitting or accepting an offer?  And my consistent answer is:  “Do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.  I am not a lawyer.”  Sometimes circumstances demand that offers (or responses) be made quickly, which doesn’t allow for outside legal advice.  Still, if this is an important step, I encourage you to take it.

Pros:  You get a second, and legal opinion.  Could be very helpful if you’ve been burned in the past, or fear the worst.

Cons:  The paperwork we Realtors use is Read the rest of this entry »

Lynnbrook vs. Lynbrook. An East Bethesda Mystery…

said on May 24th, 2010 filed under: Bethesda, Just For Fun

Maybe I walk the dog too much (sadly, not).  Or I’ve got too much time on my hands (again, not).  Then again, maybe I’ve just got a warped sense of what qualifies as a mystery.  But I’ve long been intrigued by the Lynnbrook vs. Lynbrook debate in East Bethesda.  Is it one “n” or two?

[slideshow id=3]

This was first brought to my attention because of real estate.  I had a listing on the street and the sellers insisted that the correct spelling was with one “n”.   I was pretty certain that it had two, but had to eat a little crow when I looked at the public record (one “n”).  And I guess you have to go with the public record… right?  Or, is the the street sign?

Granted, most of the street signs opt for the double “n”.  But not those upstarts at the corner of Rosedale.  They’ll take the single “n” thank you very much.  One block away at Chestnut it’s back to two.  The daycare center opts for the single “n” as well.  How the heck does this persist?  Does the rest of East Bethesda even care?  Or am I the lone nut job in town?

Thankfully, this isn’t they type of mystery that keeps me up at night.  I try to save that for the more important stuff, like, who shot Kennedy, or are there other intelligent lifeforms out there in the Universe?

Cast your vote, East Bethesda.  My sanity might be riding on it!

credit cardsThe Washington Post just reported that lenders, effective June 1, will be running a final credit report on purchasers just prior to settlement.  That’s in addition to the preliminary one they run to qualify you for the loan.

And it’s not just for purchases.  If you open a line of credit, let’s say, at Ethan Allen, in anticipation of your big Read the rest of this entry »

Who Knew…

spend less!Rental Cars.  Money.  Ick.

I’m heading to San Francisco in two weeks.  I’ve been putting off renting a car because to do so from the airport is going to run me @$400 for 4 days.  Sheeze.  I’ve been checking out prices on Priceline, Travelocity, Budget – all of ‘em -   No bargains to be had.  However…

I have just discovered a little secret.  And maybe the rest of the world already knows this, but it’s good news for a cheapskate like me.  Pick up the car from another location (in this case, downtown SF), and you can get it for about 1/3 of the priceYahoo.  And, I can return it to the airport, which is where I want to be at the end of the trip.  No brainer.

Feeling thrifty, sneaky, and vastly richer.

DC and the DMV

said on May 15th, 2010 filed under: District of Columbia

DC and the DMVMan, if there’s anything I hate more in life… it’s the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles).  Lousy pictures, long lines, having to admit your weight.  There oughta be a law.   Go to this god-forsaken website if you want/need any information on driving in the District.
