The Evers & Co. July 2015 Real Estate Report

DC CapitolThe change we saw in June with dollar volume of sales increasing in the suburbs was even greater in July.  Fairfax County showed a 24.8% increase in dollar volume of sales in July, year over year, compared to an 18.3% increase in June.  Montgomery County had a 22.3% increase in July compared to its 12% increase in June. The suburbs had been experiencing pretty sluggish sales in the last several months compared to the District, but now they are finally gathering some steam and catching up.

Tomato Love

Tom-a-to, Tom-ah-toI love summer and the tomatoes that come with it. My husband doesn’t like tomatoes. I still can’t figure that one out.

I’ve just discovered that there are two tomato festivals coming up in Maryland. Yahoo!

One is in Carroll County on August 22, focusing specifically on heirloom tomatoes. This one is put on by the Master Gardner folks. Click here for more information.

And for those of you with a bellicose side, the Great Eastern Shore Tomato Festival is also being held on August 22. Click here for details. They brag about “Tomato Wars” and food fights, so wear your favorite apparel at your peril!

The Evers & Co. June 2015 Real Estate Report

bigstock-Warm-afternoon-light-at-the-fa-19280741In June 2015, the close-in Metro areas marketplace saw an 11.4% increase in dollar volume of sales, and for the second month in a row, most of it occurred in Fairfax County and Montgomery County. Even though these areas have bigger populations and much more real estate on the market than Washington, DC, they have trailed the District all year, and now they are finally experiencing some catching up.

None of this changes what everyone in real estate knows about this year: no matter where your property is located, price is king, and if you want to get your property sold, price it right. The second most important thing is to make sure your property looks its best when you put it on the market. The first impression buyers have of price and presentation is by far the most influential.
